Trailer released for A Very Royal Scandal, based on Prince Andrew's disastrous BBC interview
The Duke of York's friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein is in the headlines once again thanks to a new drama series.
A Very Royal Scandal – to be released on September 19 – is based on Prince Andrew's infamous interview that saw him grilled about Epstein by a journalist for the first time.
The first trailer for the three-part series has been released overnight, showing Michael Sheen as the embattled Prince and Ruth Wilson as reporter Emily Maitlis.

On November 16, 2019, the BBC aired what would quickly become one of its most-watched interviews on the program Newsnight.
The sit-down saw Prince Andrew squirming when questioned over his links with Epstein.

He denied allegations he sexually abused accuser Virginia Giuffre when she was just 17 and disputed her account of the events in 2001.

Giuffre - then called Virginia Roberts - said that she met Prince Andrew in a nightclub in 2001.
But the Prince says that he took his daughter to Pizza Express in Woking that day before spending the night at home.

The interview produced some unforgettable moments from Prince Andrew, including his claim that he is unable to sweat due to an injury suffered during his time in the Falklands War.
He was also widely criticised for showing little sympathy towards Epstein's victims.

The fallout for Prince Andrew was swift. Days later, Prince Andrew stepped back from public duties and lost most of his patronages and HRH title.
The real-life interview was filmed inside Buckingham Palace and Prince Andrew needed permission from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II before agreeing to do it.
A Very Royal Scandal follows the action of Maitlis and Prince Andrew in the lead-up to the interview, the ground-breaking event itself and the many questions left in its wake that would change their lives forever.

The real-life Maitlis was an executive producer on the series and worked closely with the actors during the show's development.
It will premiere on Prime Video on September 19.
Honor Swinton Byrne will play Princess Beatrice and Sofia Oxenham is Princess Eugenie. Claire Rushbrook has been cast as Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.
The drama comes just months after Netflix aired its own series on the interview, called Scoop.
A Very Royal Scandal is the third in the Scandal series, following 2018's A Very English Scandal starring Hugh Grant and 2021's A Very British Scandal, about the infamous divorce between the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, played by Paul Bettany and Claire Foy.
