Princess Mary and kids witness horrifying accident from palace balcony

Princess Mary doesn’t have a strong poker face, if new photos are anything to go by.

The 45-year-old and her four children were watching a cross-country horse race near Copenhagen on Sunday when disaster struck.

A rider in the Hubertus Hunt, an annual event marking the start of Denmark’s hunting season, was injured when he came off his horse.

He laid limp on the ground before being attended to by paramedics and taken away in an ambulance.

The accident shocked the thousands of spectators who had gathered in the woodland, including the Danish royal family who were watching from the nearby Hermitage Palace.

Princess Mary, Prince Christian, 12, Princess Isabella, 10, and six-year-old twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine were all visibly distressed, with Mary clutching her face in her hands.

Crown Prince Frederick was absent due to an International Olympic Committee meeting in Switzerland.

Prior to the event, the family appeared in good spirits, posing for photos outside the palace.
