Woman says she's no longer charged for extra plane luggage after losing weight: 'Pretty privilege is real'

A woman claims she is no longer charged airline luggage fees now she is thinner, suggesting "pretty privilege" is very real.

Elena, who shares videos on TikTok @elena.hrs, says she overpacked for a recent flight and was two kilograms over the weight limit.

She says she previously would have had to pay extra for this, but after losing weight she claims staff let her pass through without an additional cost.

Elena has shared her experience on TikTok along with the description: "Airport stories."

In the video, we see Elena on a travellator with her luggage and a text overlay that reads: "You realise 'Pretty Privilege' is real when you were spared the 2 extra kgs. But the previous years when you were 'fat' and when to to the airport with 0.8kg over the limit, you were asked to pay."

"It is very real, after I lost 23kg, people were noticeably nicer to me, especially women," one of Elena's TikTok followers shared.

"This is so true, I lost around 5kg and people were being so much nicer towards me, it really makes you sad," added another.

"100%! This is why I always make sure I'm 'put together' at the airport," another commented.

Another wrote: "Yep. My pretty friend was surprised when I said I don't get free stuff like she does. And that no stranger is as nice to me as they are to her."

Although, at least one of Elena's TikTok followers suggested another reason why she didn't pay for her luggage, explaining: "TBH [to be honest] i think you just got lucky with the person, maybe the plane was undercharged/not fully booked so it didn't matter as much."

To this, one person said: "I think it can be a mix of both. when I lived abroad, in a country my body type was considered more attractive, I had stuff like this happen way more."

Another commenter said: "when I have traveled with my model looking friend we have always got free checked bags or extra bags. I never have."

"Maybe it's just your inner energy that is giving more confident vibes now," added another.

"Don't overpack. There are limit so the staff doesn't break their back lifting it onto the plane," one airport employee shared.

"Being nice always helps," added another.

One said: "Pretty privilege and skinny privilege are not the same."

Another person offered this explanation: "You just got a new guy. that's all. it's not because your pretty or ugly it's because the guy didn't read the limit right."
