How Noémie Fox's boyfriend Titouan Dupras celebrated her first Olympic gold medal win

Seconds after Noémie Fox won her first gold medal at Paris 2024, her sister Jess Fox and boyfriend Titouan Dupras dove into the water to embrace her.

The photos from that moment will live on in Olympic history for years to come, but the snaps also had many Australians watching at home wondering just who Dupras was.

The French athlete-turned-coach has been dating Noémie for eight years now, with romantic photos on the couples' respective Instagram pages dating back to 2017.

Though they're quite private about their romance, it seems Dupras was willing to move across the world just to be with Noémie.

An athlete himself, Dupras started out on the French Canoe Slalom national team before moving into a coaching role with the French International Canoe Federation (ICF) in 2018.

Originally they were in a long-distance relationship, as Dupras was based in Europe while Noémie's home was in Australia, but coaching eventually brought him Down Under.

He coached the Canadian and Moroccan Canoe Slalom teams before making the big move to Australia in 2021, where he joined Australia Canoe Slalom coaching team – and got to be closer to Noémie.

For a while he worked with young Aussie canoeists as part of the Canoe Slalom Pathways Program and takes a very holistic approach to their training.

"For me, winning well is developing the athletes with a holistic view of their journey as an athlete but also as a person outside of the sport," he told Paddle Australia in 2023.

"Of course performance is important, but the performance is at the end of the journey. I am really focused on bringing these athletes into the journey, for them to really trust me and then performing at the end of it."

Dupras explained the sport isn't just about performance or results, rather his focus is on "taking care of everything that's going around" the athletes as well.

With an ethos like that, it's no wonder Noémie was happy to have him come onboard as her coach ahead of Paris 2024.

He travelled to France with her in July and was by her side as she made her Olympic debut and even had to compete against her own sister, Jess.

"Where she was against her sister, that was hard for her, really hard for her," Dupras told reporters.

Noémie and Jess went head-to-head in the kayak cross race heats and though Jess didn't make it through, her little sister went on to win gold.

Dupras said of her victory, "Today when she came here to this venue, she was incredible and composed and willing to do the best."

The sisters have been friendly rivals for years and Jess has always pushed Noémie to be the best athlete she can be, as has Dupras.

So it was no surprise when both leapt into the water to embrace her after her spectacular win.

"After seeing Jess getting eliminated yesterday, she could just dream about going as far as she can to deserve a place … to show her older sister what she's capable of," Dupras told the press after his girlfriend's victory.

"And she showed it."
