'Evil stepmum' refuses to let husband's daughter move in

A woman has found herself labelled an ‘evil stepmother’ after refusing to let her step-daughter move in.

Sharing her frustrations on popular parenting forum Mumsnet, the woman claims her marriage has soured because she didn’t want her husband's adult daughter living with them.

The couple, who have a young son together, currently live together in a small city apartment the woman had purchased with her savings and family inheritance.

The anonymous poster says she’s known her step-daughter - who lives with her mother in another city - since she was a teenager and “quite likes” her.

However, she claims things took a turn this year when the 23-year-old decided to move to the city her father was living in.

“I got a message from her saying that she wants to move in with us for three months ... until she could find a job in the city that pays her well enough so she could move out,” the woman writes.

“She added another message saying that, ‘Dad agreed.. this is our plan’.”

When asked, neither the step-daughter or her father could explain what would happen if she didn’t find a job in that time - so the poster laid down the law.

“I gave her a splendid NO for the first time in my life,” the woman writes.

“My husband was furious at me and he also got a nasty email from his ex wife ... later I got a text from her saying that I don't treat [my stepdaughter] as a part of the family.”

“How would you feel if your son, when he is a young adult, wanted to live with you while looking for a job and your husband said he couldn't?” one asks.

“It may be your house financially, but it is [your husband’s] home too, for any decisions, you need to be looking at this as your joint home,” another argues.

Others were less diplomatic, with one commenter labelling the poster a “horrible person”.

“Am starting to understand the wicked stepmother trope,” another adds.

The step-daughter didn’t get off lightly, either.

“She can get a sh-tty job until she gets a better one and in the interim rent a room in a house share and f--- off, frankly. Like the rest of us had to,” one Mumsnet user argues.

“At 23 she needs to get a grip. I bought my own place at younger than that and I'm only 31 now.”
