A UK woman has died after allegedly being struck by a float during a traditional parade in Padstow, Cornwall.

Laura Smallwood, 34, was attending the Obby Oss May Day festivities in Padstow on Wednesday when she suddenly collapsed, suffering a severe neck injury.

It is suspected that she may have been hurt as the Osses, stylised recreations of two horses, moved through the parade surrounded by dancers and musicians.

One of the Osses, the Blue Ribbon Obby Oss, is thought to have accidentally struck Smallwood as she walked past on a footpath, leading to her collapse.

She was rushed to hospital where she later died and police are now investigating the circumstances of her death.

The Oss that is believed to have hit her has been examined and returned, police now calling for any bystanders who may have captured photos or videos of the moment Smallwood collapsed to share them with law enforcement.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Laura's family at this very sad time," said Detective Inspector Paul Norlund.
