Woman jailed for throwing newborn baby out of bathroom window in a plastic bag

A new mum will spend the next ten years behind bars after throwing her newborn out of a window in a plastic bag.

According to Press Association, the UK woman -- who cannot be named to protect the child’s identity -- kept her pregnancy a secret from her family.

On April 22, 2016, the woman gave birth to a daughter in a second-story bathroom toilet bowl.

It’s understood the new mum from Oswestry in Shropshire, then put the baby in a plastic bag and threw the bag out of the window.

"She was full term and there were no complications,” Prosecutor David Mason QC said.

“Below the window were concrete slabs,” he added.

Miraculously, the baby girl survived the fall, however, suffered a number of injuries, including bleeding on the brain.

The newborn was discovered outside the house where the woman was living and she was subsequently charged and convicted of attempted murder.

The woman was jailed on Friday for 10 years with Stafford Crown Court Judge Michael Chambers QC calling it “a grave and appalling act”.

“This isn’t a spontaneous reaction of finding out she was pregnant,” he said, adding: “There was clearly a case of some premeditation.”

The court heard the mother didn’t want the baby as it reminded her  too much of the man she shared the baby with, from whom she’d separated from.

Paul Smith, the lawyer defending the unidentified woman says she was “naive and socially immature” at the time and claims she’s “deeply remorseful”, according to PA.
