Aisle Files: The $13.99 Bunnings bargain that will save you at the checkout

Aside from groceries, dishwashing products account for a large portion of money spent in supermarkets.

Dishwashing products can be expensive. There's dishwashing liquid for those who like to give their dishes a good scrub.

And then there's dishwashing tablets which eat up even more of family's grocery budgets.

For this week's Supermarket Sleuths, I have found simple solution, once again discovered at Bunnings.

Here, you can purchase dishwashing products in bulk which saves so much money compared to purchasing smaller, individual products in the major supermarkets. And I'm talking the best brands on the market.

Let's start with my favourite, Morning Fresh, which I'd try and only buy while on special. But I don't have to do this anymore, because Bunnings is selling Morning Fresh in a three-pack of 900ml bottles for $13.99.

This means customers are paying $4.66 per bottle, which is half the price of the regular cost of Morning Fresh 900ml bottles in major supermarkets which is usually $9.50.

Coles often sells Morning Fresh at half price so that it's worth keeping an eye out for that if you don't have a local Bunnings.

Woolworths is also charging $9.50 but regularly marks them down as well.

Now, for dishwashing tablets. Bunnings has Finish Quantum dishwashing tablets in 60 packs for $18.95 which works out to be 32c each. Or you can pick up a pack of 90 tablets for $36 which leaves you paying 40c per tablet.

While this is a rare example of a larger bulk purchase costing more per tablet, both prices are markedly less than regular prices.

Coles sells Finish Quantum in a range of sizes online, less so in stores. You can pick up packs of 18, 36, 50, 72 or 100 packs, with only the 100 pack costing less than Bunnings at 39c each.

The 18 pack of Finish Quantum costs $11 which is 61c per tablet. The 36 pack costs $20 which is 55c each. The 50 pack of tablets is $25 which means you pay 50c each.

The 72 pack of Finish Quantum is $32, or 50c per tablet. And the 100 pack is $39 or 39c per packet.

At Woolies they have Finish Ultimate dishwashing tablets on sale, a 100 pack for $39 which means you pay 39c per tablet This is in line with Coles' most affordable option.

So do yourself a favour and head to Bunnings, I recommend monthly, to stock up on cleaning items and products and you will save yourself a bundle, and free up more of your supermarket spend for food.
