Major retailer joins DoorDash as Aussie shoppers increasingly turn to fast deliveries

In a major shake-up to Australia’s discount retail landscape, Big W has officially partnered with DoorDash to offer ultra-convenient, same-day delivery.
The aggressive move makes Big W the first discount department store in the country to launch on-demand delivery via DoorDash, landing just days after main rival Target signed with Uber Eats to become the nation’s first fashion apparel retailer on that platform.

The partnership kicks off across 156 Big W stores today, following a successful 10-store pilot launched on September 30, with plans to expand to even more locations by the end of the month.
The nationwide rollout comes off the back of a massive surge in demand since Big W first introduced DoorDash-powered same-day delivery in May, where shoppers rushed to order small appliances, nursery essentials, toys, and bed linen.

Under the new deal, Australians can now access more than 35,000 Big W products directly through the DoorDash app and website. Items will be available for order during standard trading hours – typically 8am to 7pm –with goods arriving at customer doorsteps in as fast as 60 minutes.
The timing positions both companies to capture peak holiday traffic, giving time-poor families rapid access to Black Friday deals, Christmas gifts, Halloween costumes, and summer gear, right alongside Big W’s viral beauty, fashion, homewares, and pet ranges.
Big W Director Jo Hicks explained that the partnership aims to make shopping at the discount retailer far "more convenient" for everyday families.
DoorDash Vice President APAC Simon Rossi described the expansion as an "exciting" milestone for local shoppers.
"From toys and clothing to beauty, homewares and small appliances, Australians can now shop more than 35,000 products through both the app and web," Rossi said.
"Whether it’s getting ready for Christmas or picking up something the family needs today, we’re making it easier to shop Big W with delivery in as fast as 60 minutes."

The new DoorDash service adds a powerful instant-fulfillment layer to Big W's existing fulfillment network, operating alongside its free store pick-up, free metro delivery on orders over $59, and free Direct to Boot service at select locations.
The launch signals a dramatic escalation in the turf war between delivery giants DoorDash and Uber Eats, both of which have been fiercely competing to lock down exclusive retail partnerships across Australia.
Competition between the two apps has reached fever pitch following the exit of Menulog from the Australian market in November 2025, leaving a high-stakes battle for quick-commerce dominance.

DoorDash has since built an impressive retail roster as the exclusive fast delivery partner for Big W, Costco, and Aldi. Meanwhile, Uber Eats has countered by securing exclusive delivery rights for Target, Bunnings, and Officeworks, setting the stage for an unprecedented retail showdown ahead of the summer shopping rush.
