Barack and Michelle Obama celebrate milestone wedding anniversary with moving tributes

Barack and Michelle Obama have celebrated their 28^th wedding anniversary, and their sweet tributes to each other have melted hearts online.

The former President and First Lady took to Instagram to commemorate their love, marking their milestone anniversary with two sweet photos.

Barack posted a snap of he and Michelle laughing with their heads together on a sunny day, gushing about his wife in the caption.

"Even with everything going on, I wanted to take a moment to say happy anniversary to the love of my life," he wrote.

"Every day with @MichelleObama makes me a better husband, a better father, and a better human."

He then asked his followers to encourage their loved ones to vote in the upcoming US elections, as voting isn't mandatory in America.

"This year, while we appreciate all your well-wishes, what we'd really love is for each of you to reach out to one person in your life who might not vote," Barack wrote

He then signed off with: "Happy anniversary, Miche. Love you."

Michelle shared a similar message in her own post, which featured a photo of her sitting with Barack's arm around her as the pair smile.

"28 years with this one. I love @BarackObama for his smile, his character, and his compassion," she gushed of her husband.

"So grateful to have him as a partner through everything life throws at us. And this year, we have a request for you — pick one person in your life who might not vote and make sure they do."

She urged followers to share their own voting stories in the comments and said that encouraging others to vote would be the best anniversary message for her and Barack.

"That's an anniversary message of the best kind. Love you, Barack," she wrote.

Both Obamas have been vocal about encouraging voter rights in the US, urging more people to make their voices heard by voting in the 2020 Presidential election in November.

Just months ago Michelle donned a now-iconic 'VOTE' necklace for an appearance at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

There she gave a rousing speech urging people to vote and criticising President Trump, saying he is "the wrong president for our country".

She and Barack have been a united voice this year, as they have been for much of their decades-long relationship.

The pair met in 1989 when Michelle, 25, was working as a junior associate at a Chicago law firm and was asked to mentor an incoming summer associate; Barack, then 27.

He was immediately "struck by how tall and beautiful" Michelle was and found her to have a "great sense of humour, a great presence about her".

Though she was unsure about him at first, love soon blossomed and the pair have been inseparable ever since.
