Men should always pay on the first date - or so says love coach Lady Nadia Essex.

The Celebs Go Dating star ruffled some feathers during an appearance on a UK breakfast program on Monday, where she explained her anti-bill splitting stance.

“Whatever works for you, but I would not go on a date with a guy and split,” she told This Morning hosts Ore Oduba and Lisa Snowdon.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a bit of old-fashioned romance, and if you ask me out on a date, you should pick up the bill.”

The ‘who pays for the first date?’ question is a notoriously divisive one, so it’s hardly surprising Essex’s argument got some viewers riled up.

“Nadia Essex is stuck in 1950. Why l wouldn’t you split the bill, especially if you don’t know each other much yet? What if the woman earns loads more?” one countered.

“People want pay equality yet men must pay on first date,” another mused.
