Man found 'covered in blood' after deaths of his girlfriend and her two kids

The investigation is continuing into the murder of a woman and her children in Missouri in the US, with a suspect arrested over the crime.

Richard Darren Emery, 46, allegedly killed Kate Katsen, 39, whom he had been reportedly dating for over a year, along with her two children Zoe, 8, and Jonathan, 10.

Emergency services received reports of an active shooter in the area on Saturday. They arrived to find three bodies inside, along with Ms Katsen's mother Jane Moeckel.

Police report seeing Emery get in his truck and drive away. He was later pulled over and ordered out of the vehicle.

Police allege he fired upon them eight times before fleeing into the nearby woods. He was later found, reportedly covered in blood, inside a convenience store.

Police also alleged he resisted officer's efforts to arrest him and he was shot twice before being placed in handcuffs.

During a press conference on Sunday, police said they received a call from an unidentified person and they heard screams and multiple shots they described as "chilling".

Mr Emery is yet to retain the services of an attorney and enter a plea. He is being held in custody without bail.
