Love Is Blind star Kwame Appiah reveals shock health diagnosis

Reality television star Kwame Appiah has revealed his shock ulcerative colitis diagnosis.

The Love Is Blind season 4 star has warned fans about the dangers of ignoring your health, penning a candid update on his diagnosis. 

Taking to Instagram, Appiah shared that he noticed something was off with his health in November when he felt unwell.

"I didn't take it too seriously," Appiah began. "And then next thing you know, we're about a month in. So here's why that month of waiting really hurt. 

"Because by the time I actually got to the doctor in December, I was having fevers for about three weeks. I had lost 20 pounds."

Appiah shared that his doctors said his symptoms could be caused by a host of health issues, including cancer, later being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis, experiencing it "at its absolute worst."

Ulcerative colitis, together with Crohn's disease, comprises a group of conditions called Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD).

Crohn's & Colitis Australia says, "Ulcerative colitis is a type of IBD that can cause inflammation and ulceration in the large intestine (colon and rectum). Inflammation can cause redness, swelling and pain, and is the body's response to injury or irritation."

Appiah shared three important lessons with fans he learned throughout the difficult experience. 

"One, just a quick reminder that life is incredibly precious. I didn't realise how important the normal things I did in my day were for me until I couldn't do them. 

"Lesson number two, small things can lead to big problems if we ignore them. So don't," he said. 

"Lesson number three, information is everything. You have to know what it is if you are going to fight it."

Appiah concluded the video by thanking his wife, Chelsea Griffin Appiah, whom he met on the Netflix dating show, adding he was grateful to "feel like myself again".
