Louis popped the question on a beach while the pair — who met at university — were holidaying in Vietnam. He looked dapper in a white suit in the snap, while she looked every inch the princess in an emerald green dress.

His mother, Princess Stephanie of Monaco quickly expressed her excitement.

"Her Serene Highness Princess Stephanie has the joy to announce her son Louis Ducruet's engagement with Miss Marie Chevallier", a brief statement from the palace read.

Louis is her eldest child with her former bodyguard and ex-husband Daniel Ducruet. She also has two daughters, Pauline Ducruet, 23, and Camille Gottlieb, 19.

He is 12th in line to throne, and the first of Princess Stephanie's children to get engaged.

Her mother, Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III in an incredibly elegant ceremony in 1956. Her stunning lace gown inspired Kate Middleton's 2011 Alexander McQueen dress. Grace was tragically killed in a car crash in 1982.

Further details on the upcoming nuptials are sparse, but one thing is for sure: 2018 really is shaping up to be the year of royal weddings!
