The lifestyle overhaul that saw Lola Berry lose 20 kilograms in 20 weeks
Lola Berry’s name is synonymous with an Instagram-worthy image of health - but that wasn’t always the case.
The Yoga Body author says ‘healthy’ was a word nobody would have used to describe her lifestyle nine years ago.
“I was a DJ, I was partying, my favourite foods were giant Caramello Koalas and lamingtons with jam in the middle,” the 32-year-old tells 9Honey.
“I wasn’t healthy at all, and I just thought, ‘I want to feel good’.”
That’s how the then-23-year-old stumbled on the pastime that would one day become her great passion.
“Plus, there is that saying ‘get the yoga abs’. I still only have yoga abs in the morning, they’re gone by the afternoon every day!”
Around the same time, Berry overhauled her eating habits, cutting back on refined sugar and grain - foods she realised she was reactive to - in favour or “really clean wholefoods”.
Within weeks, she noticed her weight was beginning to change. After 20 weeks, she had lost 20 kilograms, and almost a decade later she’s still a happy size eight.
Reflecting on her lifestyle change, Berry - who is now a yoga teacher - admits it was an interesting learning curve.

“Sometimes, until you realise what it feels like to be healthy, you don’t know what you’re missing out on,” she muses.
“I didn’t know that I was feeling bloated all the time, and that I was feeling a bit fluid-y, until I started pulling these reactive foods out of my diet and then I started feeling really good.”
Although Berry was stoked with how yoga changed her body physically, she was also pleasantly surprised by the other impacts it had on her life.
