Simple Kmart DIY hack makes the cutest Halloween décor for just $3

If you celebrate Halloween you only have a couple of weeks left to get the house decorated and ready for the spooky holiday.

One simple and affordable project you can whip up before October 31 comes from DIYer and home décor fan Michelle.

In an Instagram reel she showed how to make floating ghosts, which can be placed over battery-powered tea-light candles to create a glow effect.

The main craft supply you'll need for the project is a pack of air dry clay, which you can find at Kmart for just $3.25.

To mould the clay into a ghost shape she glued a foam ball on top of a toilet roll but said "you could use any type of ball or small vase".

Before using the air dry clay it needs to be rolled out, like you would with dough.

Then she draped the clay over the foam ball and used her fingers to give the clay a ghost shape.

To make the eyes and mouth, Michelle poked three holes with a wooden dowel.

Once dry it was time to paint the ghost white, and you could finish at this step but to make the ghost extra cute, Michelle used a Cricut machine to cut out some vinyl flower shapes to stick on.

"I loved creating these floral tea light ghosts, they were pretty easy make with air dry clay and they look super cute.I used my @cricut_anz JoyXtra to cut out the pretty coloured vinyl flowers, painted the ghosts with some acrylic paint and sealed them with Cabot's Cabothane clear," Michelle captioned her post.

"Just add a LED tea light underneath and not only will you get an eerie glow but it'll look like the ghosts are floating."

LED tea lights can also be purchased from Kmart for $3 for a pack of six.

Once completed Michelle styled her ghost DIYs beautifully on a terrazzo-look tray with mini-pumpkin décor and a vase with flowers.

The DIY project was a hit with her followers with many saying how "creative" it is.

"So fun and cute," a woman said.

"Omg you are so creative," another wrote.

"Super duper love it !..so creative," one commented.
