The $18 buy saving shoppers $584 on designer décor item

Kmart is saving shoppers hundreds on a designer buy with its own version of the famous Diptyque candle.

Kmart's version comes in three different scents – amber tonka in a white vessel, vetiver fig in green, and blackcurrant rose in pink – with the initials of each scent name branded into the front of the candle.

It also comes with a double wick and a matching ceramic lid.

Meanwhile, the original comes in scents such as berries, woodfire, amber, fig tree, tuberose, roses, and more.

However, the only extra large candles available from the brand in Australia are sold at Mecca, where they retail for $602. They come in rose, ambre, feu de bois, vanille, tuberose, fig tree, berries, and more.

The original candles have five wicks and contain 1.5kg of wax.

Shoppers have gushed over the new Kmart find, with one by the name of Tahneika Jayd sharing on TikTok that the scent is "insane" and for "$18 you can't go wrong, and it just looks so beautiful."

"Waitttt the way I was contemplating spending $600 on the Diptyque," said one commenter, to which Jayd said, "I know right! She's so chic."

Once you buy a candle, you want to make sure that it stays burning bright for as long as possible.

How to keep your candle smelling amazing

Estelle Omnes from Diptyque shared her tips with Mecca to keep candles smelling great.

Her first tip is to ensure that when the candle is first lit, that it burns for at least two to three hours. This ensures that the wax melts evenly and prevents "tunelling", which creates a deeper hole on one side of the candle and greatly reduces it's lifespan.

If it does end up happening, the next time you light the candle, "you have to burn it for a really long period of time, so that the candle catches up with the hole," she said.

Another great tip is to refrain from blowing out candles, which can create sparks in the air, cause dangerous hot wax splatter, or create the smell of smoke. Instead, extinguish them with a candle snuffer, a spoon, or the lid of the candle.

One little known upkeep trick is to recentre the wick while the wax is still soft, and trim the wick each time you put out the flame.

"When you burn a candle, the wax evaporates, which makes the candle go down, and the wick does not go down at the same speed. You need to cut the wick to only three millimetres," says Omne. This will prevent the cotton of the wick burning and creating black smoke.
