The $12 dupe saving shoppers on pricey designer towels

Fans of the ever-coveted Hommey towels can rejoice, with a much more affordable alternative in reach.

The Australian designer towels retail at $89 a piece, coming in multiple colourful and trendy colourways, promising "poolside luxury".

But now, another beloved Aussie retailer has brought out its own version. Kmart have started selling its stripe cotton bath towel for just $12.

Like its inspiration, Kmart's collection also comes in a number of colorways, including the popular berry, which features light pink and berry pink stripes.

Also for sale is the brown design, which has light blue and light brown stripes, port, which has lilac and burgundy stripes, and green, featuring light and dark green alternative stripes.

"Stripes are a standout trend that Kmart customers are continuing to love, so we're excited to bring this bold, fun pattern into our towelling offering," Emily Chodziesner, Kmart buyer, says.

"Available in both a bath towel and hand towel sizes, there are several colourways to suit your home's aesthetic, including red and pink, lilac and burgundy, green and teal, and blue and brown. These are tipped to go viral over the summer period, so get in quick."

Delighted shoppers shared their finds on TikTok, with many rushing to style their new additions in their bathrooms.

Others grabbed the towels by the armful in store, while some shared their honest reviews about the quality.

One TikTok user named Baytee shared that the towels "feel really good, very soft... a few washes and they're fine to use."

The retailer is also selling matching hand towels for only $6, for those who want a little taste of the trend or a complete set.

For those looking for slightly different colourways at the same price point, they can head to Ikea.

The Swedish retailer's SLÅNHÖSTMAL bath towels retail for $12, just like Kmart, but it also offers bigger bath sheets for $19, as well as guest and hand towels for $5.

They come in three colourful options; pink and orange, blue and green and black and beige. The guest towels also come in a festive option, coming in a two-pack of green and white and red and white with opposite coloured trims.

One of the hot ticket items is a dupe of the Hommey bathrobe. With the designer version retailing for $149, Ikea's dupe is $49 and available in pink and red stripes with a blue tie, or green and white stripes with a red tie.
