Drying washing inside when it's raining is easier when you do it in this forgotten spot

Drying washing inside when its raining and you don't have a dryer can be tricky.

Even when you've got a top-notch clothes airer and a heater or dehumidifier to help speed up the process, it can mean clothes over chairs and door frames and days spent waiting for things to dry.

Well, there is one more space in the home to try if you need more room to hang washing and its location means it'll speed up the process.

That spot is the banister at the top of a staircase, where you can hang a particular style of clothes airer.

The handy location was revealed by a woman on TikTok who goes by the handle @athomein45.

While they purchased their clothes airer from a store in the UK, you can find a similar clothes airer at Bunnings with the Boxsweden stainless steel extendable clothes airer for $9.95 each.

"These are so handy to have and pop over your banister, we've got the heating on today because the weather is rubbish and our upstairs is roasting when it's on so having these on and the clothes drying is so handy," @homein45 captioned their TikTok post.

Using the banister at the top of the stairs doesn't just mean the clothes airer is out of the way, it will also dry items faster as this spot has a lot of space for air flow.

Those who watched the video were keen to grab the same clothes airers and try this out themselves.

"It's genius I always put my towels on there but if I had an airer," one said.

"Love this idea defo going to get some," a TikToker wrote.

"I've been doing this for a few years and no damp issues whatsoever in fact you'd be amazed how quickly clothes dry as heat rises," another said.

Of course, the downside to the hack is that it only works if you have stairs. If you don't there are clothes airers you can get that slip over the tops of doors to give you extra space to spread out your washing.

Other options to speed up the drying process for washing hung inside when its raining are to put them in a room where the heater is on and to use a dehumidifier to remove the moisture from the clothes as it evaporates into the air.

Another brilliant tip is to use your spin cycle more. Unless you've washed a load of delicates, put your load on an extra spin cycle when its finished.

Even two or three extra spin cycles make a difference, though three more is really only recommended for towels because they're a thicker, tougher fabric.

Then when you put those items on your clothes airer spread them out as much as possible to allow for more air flow.

Where possible it also helps to do smaller loads during rainy periods so that you're not surrounded by damp clothes for days on end and only have to dry the things you really need.
