Skirting boards are in every room and collect an extraordinary amount of dust, yet are so annoying to clean that they rarely get done.

Until now, one of the best ways to dust skirting boards has been to crouch down and dust with a cloth by hand.

But a stylist has come up with a hack that makes this quicker and easier, and you don't even need to get down on your knees to do it.

Liz Amaya shared the hack on Instagram with a video showing how she uses her stick vacuum as a duster, but not in the way you'd assume.

Watch the video above.

"I use my vacuum head, a microfibre cloth and a couple of pegs. Add some cleaning spray and wipe until clean," she explained.

In the video Amaya demonstrates this by clipping a folded microfibre cloth over the vacuum head. She popped a clip either side of the vacuum hose to keep the cloth on.

She then showed how easy it is to dust the skirting boards this way before revealing the huge amount of dust and dirt the cloth collected.

The final step of the hack is to toss the cloths in the washing machine to clean them.

"My way may be a little unconventional. But it works," she captioned the video.

Some followers shared their own skirting board cleaning methods.

"I do similar but I clip a damp chuck or microfibre cloth over my soft broom head. I find the soft bristles allow for a better, easier clean," suggested a follower.

"I make it a job for the kids. I have a feather duster that I dedicate for the skirting boards and they just run along them once a week," posted another.

However, some were wondering whether the vacuum is turned on at all or if it's just used as a handy pole.

"You can vacuum first but this does the trick," Amaya responded.
