Clever hack Aussie stylist uses to clean annoying sliding door tracks

Sliding door tracks collect a ridiculous amount of dirt and dust, yet they are one of those spots we forget to clean.

When we do clean them we often battle with finding the best vacuum attachment to remove the mess, and once we find a nozzle that fits, often most of the gunk stays on the tracks.

Aussie stylist Liz Amaya has a handy solution to this annoying problem with a cleaning hack involving the humble kitchen sponge, which she shared in a reel on Instagram.

And it will cost you very little to do as you can pick up a five-pack of sponges from Woolworths for just $1.60.

The other items you'll need are dishwashing detergent, a marker or pen, scissors, water and a bowl – all items you probably already own.

The hack began with Amaya placing the sponge over her sliding door tracks. She then used a marker to indicate where the tracks were and then cut these marks with scissors.

Next she drizzled dishwashing detergent into a bowl and filled it with hot water.

"Dip [sponge] in soapy water and run the wet sponge over the tracks," the caption in her video said.

"Sponge catches the dirt in the tracks," she added before showing the dirty sponge and sparkling clean sliding door tracks.

Amaya's followers praised the hack, which reminded some of them that they hadn't cleaned this spot in a while.

"That's a nifty trick!" one commented.

"Great tip! Have to give this a try! Thank you," posted a follower.

"OMG I love this. I only just said today I need to clean my sliding door tracks. Definitely doing this when I get around to it," another said.

To make cleaning sliding door tracks easier, one thing you can do before using the sponge is to use a brush to lift up the dirt from the tiny crevices in the tracks.

A good tool for this is the Oates Brush Cleaning Trackbuster from Bunnings for $6.49, which you can also use to clean window tracks.

Using this tool in combination with a vacuum will actually help to get dirt and dust out rather than vacuuming on its own.
