As 'The Beast From The East' hits the UK, the extreme cold weather is certainly bringing out the warmth among the community in Bristol.

The fierce storm, fuelled by icy winds from Siberia had made the UK colder than the Arctic Circle this week and has millions shivering in sub-zero temperatures.

In light of the end of winter cold snap, people in the town - located in the south-west of the country - began placing scarves, beanies and gloves around lamp posts, at bus stops and anywhere those in need could take one to help in the extreme temperatures.

"Some kind souls have left warm knitwear throughout the city - it’s everywhere. Proud of my compassionate, collaborative city. Well done," one person tweeted.

"So this is what the hats and scarves scattered throughout Bristol are for! Fantastic idea and such a positive Bristol thing," another said.

The snow and cold temperatures are expected to get worse across the end of the week and is forecast to continue into the early parts of next week.
