President Donald Trump celebrates his 71st birthday

US President Donald Trump has celebrated his 71st birthday, choosing a low-key gathering of close family, friends and aids to mark the occasion.

Daughter Ivanka Trump, 35, posted a birthday message to her father on Instagram, ahead of the June 14 celebration, writing, "Happy birthday to my incredible father @realdonaldtrump. I hope that the year to come is your best yet!"

It was posted with a throw-back photo of a young Trump holding Ivanka as a toddler.

Next was Trump's oldest son Donald Jr, 39, shared a cute photo of the president with two of his grandchildren, writing, "Happy birthday grandpa. We love you."

Son Eric, 33, also shared in the birthday love, posting a photo on his official Instagram account with the caption, "Happy birthday dad! Can't wait to celebrate tonight!"

So far, Hollywood's elite has stayed silent about the president's birthday, refraining from even sarcastic posts about Trump turning the big 7-1.

The Vice President Mike Pence also got in on the social media action, posting a photo of he and Trump from earlier in the year with the caption, "Happy birthday to the 45th President of the United States and my good friend, @POTUS Donald Trump!"

The prize for Most Excited about US President Donald Trump's Birthday goes to a right-wing group in India called Hindu Sena who held a birthday party in his honour complete with poster, balloons and cake.

The group call Trump the "Saviour of Humanity" and sent the invite out on social media, which for the family of a teenager can be a nightmare situation leading to thousands of unwanted guests, but in this case resulted in an intimate gathering of Trump diehards.
