Terminally-ill grandma goes to prom, thanks to her grandson

Julia Jarman had been given six months to live after being diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer.

And while talking to her grandchildren, she mentioned one of the things she never got to do in life was go to a school formal.

So her grandson, Stephen Virgil, stepped in.  Following a suggestion from his sister, he invited his grandmother to be his date for the prom, which fell on the eve of her 92nd birthday.

The 17-year-old from Stafford High School in Falmouth, Virginia, got approval from the school, who were only too happy to help make Julia’s dream come true.

"The faculty had been talking about it and there were a lot of tears when she came," principal Joseph Lewis told Inside Edition.

The school presented her with a tiara and a sash to make it a little more special, while Stephen had the DJ play Julia's favourite Elvis song 'Can't Help Falling In Love' to make her evening.

“She almost had me crying as she was singing it along with me while we was dancing,” he told HuffPost.

“As far as the evening went, we had a great time together. I won’t forget that night with my grandmother," he added.

It wasn't the first time Stephen has done something special for his grandmother.

He also recently took her on a week-long trip to Florida through the Dream Foundation, a body who grant wishes for terminally-ill adults in the US.
