Internet goes wild for girlfriend’s live World Cup updates
If you’ve ever looked at someone you love and thought “gosh I’m the luckiest person in the world”, you’d be scratching the surface of how one man was feeling on his trip home from work this week.
A passionate soccer fan, the Englishman was mortified when he got stuck back at work the night his country played in the FIFA World Cup.
But his girlfriend, Alison Finlay from London, had his back.
In what has become a viral sensation and sparked calls for a new kind of sports commentary, Finlay committed herself to live messaging her boyfriend rolling updates of the soccer game between England and Tunisia.
“He had to work late and hoped he’d make it back (for the game) but didn’t, so asked me to fill him in. I kindly obliged!” Finlay told the Press Association.
While England celebrated after winning the match 2-1, it was Finlay’s rolling coverage that had the internet hyped.
The London student uploaded her commentary to Twitter and the social sphere went wild.
A grateful boyfriend could sing nothing but praises for “the best girlfriend ever”.
“Oh my god, f---ing hell I love you”, he said.
And so did the internet, with some users suggesting Finlay had sparked what should be a new kind of commentary.
With Australia set to take on Peru next week, it’s possible we’ll have some of our commentary to showcase on the world stage.
