You'll be shocked by how well this NYC dumpster diver eats

Forget every stomach-churning thing you think you know about "dumpster diving".

In a mini documentary released last month, New York-based comedian and filmmaker Jeff Seal proves that dining out on binned "food waste" is a far cry from the mouldy sandwiches and vermon-chewed scraps that probably come to mind.

Over four nights, Seal dug his way through dumpsters outside major supermarkets, delis, bakeries and restaurants around Manhattan, documenting the whole process in the video above.

What he uncovered may surprise many, as he excavated package after package of freshly binned and perfectly edible gourmet meals and treats, ranging from pastries to plastic sealed bento boxes.

"I actually got a ton more food than what is in the final video — I had to cut out a lot because it was getting boring and repetitive watching me endlessly pull different types of perfectly good food out of the garbage," he told Gothamist.com.

While sifting through the bounty of dumped food the funny-man points out: "You know you're living in abundance when you can throw away food that someone else threw away." Don't call it "dumpster diving"; call it "Locally-Sourced Reclaimed Food Curation."
