Gluten-free or original? A very official blind taste-test of Woolies mudcakes
It was the news some Aussies had waited decades for: the blessed arrival of a gluten-free mudcake at Woolies.
The ‘free from gluten’ version of the beloved dense chocolate cake landed on shelves on Monday, joining the original that’s been a favourite among Woolworths shoppers since the ’90s.

As those with coeliac disease and gluten intolerances rightfully celebrated a new sweet treat option, we here at nine.com.au had to wonder: would we know the difference between the two muddies in a blind taste test?
After slicing up a regular and a gluten-free mudcake and removing them from the telltale packaging, we offered them to the sweet tooths around the office to see who could figure out which was which.
