According to official data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Consumer Price Index (CPI), food and grocery prices in Australia – which includes the “bread and cereal products” category – have risen by 3.0 to 3.4 per cent annually heading into late 2026.

This is understood to be due in part to the elevated costs for raw agricultural commodities, such as wheat, oats, and grains, alongside sugar supply constraints.

Higher energy, manufacturing and transport/logistics overheads passed down from manufacturers to major supermarket shelves also contribute.

While cereal prices continue to rise, budget-conscious shoppers are increasingly turning to supermarket home brands as cheaper alternatives.
