Subway Australia to axe Subcard loyalty program: The final date to use your points

Subway Australia has announced the closure of its popular Subcard loyalty program in a blow to budget-conscious sandwich lovers across the country.

After June 30, Subway customers will no longer be able to earn Rewards Dollars while making purchases from restaurants.

Any remaining Rewards Dollars can be redeemed "up to and including 31 August 2026".

Subway Subcard members received an email notifiying them of the change, with futher information provided on the Subway Australia website.

The email read: "To our valued Subcard members. We're reaching out to inform you the Subcard Loyalty and Gift program will be closing from 31 August 2026."

Subway explained in the email that any unused points after August 31 will expire.

The $3 minimum spend threshold for redemption of earned Reward Dollars has been removed, allowing customers to "redeem any amount of earned Rewards Dollars until the program closes".

Gift Dollars, Subway's gift card program, can be used "up to and including 31 August 2026".

After 31 August 2026, Subway said it will provide a program and system for a refund of equivalent value of valid and unexpired Gift dollars as at August 31, 2026 (subject to terms and conditions).

"Further information about this refund program will be provided by Subcard® over the next three months, before 30 July 2026," they stated on their website.

Subway Australia didn't explain why the loyalty program is ending or why the Gift Dollars program is changing.

Subcards come in the form of physical cards and cards housed in Subway's app.

There are reports the company plans to replace the Subcard program with an app-based rewards system similar to those run by McDonald's and Hungry Jacks, however this has not been confirmed.

Subway Australia has been contacted for comment.

This latest move comes after a series of challenges for the popular sandwich franchise with its first Australian store opening in Perth, Western Australia, in 1988.

There are approximately 1,255 Subway stores operating across the country.

Since 2015 has closed over 200 locations in Australia and 6,000 stores worldwide.

This is understood to be part of the brand's strategy to optimise its locations, with a focus on high-performing areas.
