'Shrinkflation has hit the humble gravy boat': Pub meal extra disappoints

A pub goer has been left disappointed after ordering what they thought would be a hearty meal, only to be let down when it came to one, important ingredient.

The hungry diner ordered what looks like a classic chicken parmigiana which came with a side of fries and some salad.

Then there was the gravy, which was a small serving, to say least.

A photo of the meal has been shared on Reddit's 'Australia' thread, with followers sympathising at the "thimble" full of gravy that seems to only be enough for one chip.

The meal came with a very small and disappointing serving of gravy. Reddit

"That's not a gravy boat, that's a gravy dinghy," one commented.

"Gravy thimble wtf," another said.

One joked: "Shot of gravy and a beer chaser, please."

Although the pub patron later explained the meal was delicious, albeit devoid of gravy.

"Honestly, great parma. Wasn't a name and shame post. And gravy was a propper rich meat and red wine reduction. Was just enough. Just looked laughably small at first impression. Where do you even get a gravy pot that small," they explained.

The later added that it was a "$20 pot and parma that would put any full-priced ones to shame."

Others took issue with the amount of chips and the salad on the side.

"That's for the small amount of chips though and I'm sure that they'd refill it for free if you ask. I'm okay with this tbh. My local RSL asks if you actually want the salad or veggies too, which is much better than just putting on your plate only for it to go straight into the bin, uneaten, later on," they said.

Others shared similarly disappointing meals.

"I ordered a side of guacamole at Hecho en Mexico and it came in a pot that size. Crazy," said one.

"At least you have something to dunk your chip into," another said.

"This is actually an outrage," another said.

"They would have had gravy boats. What did they do with their old gravy boats. I want them," said another.

Others took issue with the addition of gravy to a chicken parmigiana, which the original poster apparently ordered at a side, paying $3.50 for it.

"It was the $20 pot and parma special. + $3 for the red wine gravy, it was a listed additional option on the menu. I thought it sounded nice for the chips (and it was)," they later explained.

Another commented: "Got to be honest, I never really finish the gravy or pepper sauce that I order with a parmy. Might be the right size for me lol."
