Robert Irwin's latest Instagram post sparks fiery response from another Aussie icon

Robert Irwin has been called out by one of Australia's most iconic brands. 

Earlier this week, the Wildlife Warrior posted a series of photos of himself sitting across the breakfast table from partner Rorie Buckey.

In the images, there was a plate of croissants with butter for the couple to enjoy while they sipped on their coffee, but it was the caption that got Irwin in trouble.

"Breakfast of champions," he wrote alongside the images, with a croissant emoji at the end to really seal the deal. 

Now, as an Aussie Icon himself, Irwin really should have known better. 

The comments were mostly what we're used to seeing written under his posts, all reading along the lines of either 'what a handsome young man', or 'your father would be so proud'.

But there was one comment in particular that stood out.

Standing as a well-quenched and somewhat scorned lover amongst a swarm of thirsty fans was none-other than Australia's favourite spread, Vegemite. 

Next to the blue tick cementing the spread as an Australian icon was a clear message, "We're not angry, just disappointed 😂," they wrote. 

Some fans jumped to Irwin's defense, saying they're sure he must have a jar of Vegemite in the pocket of his khakis.

Others praised the brand for their bold savagery, unafraid to call another Aussie icon out on their 'non-Australian' behaviour.

And then there were the ones playing peacekeeper, pointing out that croissants and vegemite would actually make a great combination – we have to disagree. 

Though multiple users responded to Vegemite's comment, Irwin and his partner Buckey are still to issue a rebuttal. 

Irwin's post comes just days after the Irwin family hosted the annual Steve Irwin Gala Dinner for 2023.

The night celebrated the extraordinary life of the crocodile hunter himself while raising money for Wildlife Warriors, the charity created in his honour.

Robert shared a series of images and videos of him and his family interacting with all kinds of wildlife on the red carpet.

Buckey also shared her own post from the evening, with a few loved up pics of the young couple, writing in the caption that she is 'so proud' of her beau. 

"Rorie!! You are stunning. So beautiful inside and out," he responded in the comments.

Shame the two don't seem to share that same love for Vegemite.
