The Internet's zombie chicken will haunt your dreams

Katherine Scott

If you're harbouring any pent-up, meat-eater's guilt, maybe look away — like, now.

Footage of raw chicken seemingly leaping back to life, and crawling off a table is currently haunting our social media feeds. The Internet has already dubbed it zombie chicken.

In the terrifying viral clip, a segment of raw chicken laid out on a plate can be seen twitching, then flipping itself over, and eventually twitching itself right off the table and onto the floor (perhaps trying to escape its grisly final fate).

As the carcass writhes around, a person can be heard screaming off-camera.

The clip was originally shared to Facebook by Marie Phillips just two weeks ago, and has already amassed more than 7.5 million views — 3.5 million alone in the last 24-hours.

The obvious explanation (though not the most comforting) is that the chicken carcass was so fresh, that the nerve endings hadn't yet died off, and were causing violent spasms in the muscles.

It's not clear if the footage was taken by Phillips or even where it was captured, though based on the smorgasbord of dishes and raw meat on the table, it's likely a restaurant that lets diners cook their own barbecue or hot pot. 9Honey have reached out for comment.

Please let this all be a horrible, horrible dream.
