Prince Harry's Nando's order from 2013 is still 'disappointing' people

The royals haven't exactly made a secret of their occasional fast food indulgences.

Prince William reportedly told Nando's co-founder Robert Brozin last year that his chicken was "very good" at a youth forum, while just last week a royal insider revealed that the Queen loves ordering takeaway fish and chips when she's staying at Balmoral. It's even been well documented that Princess Diana would treat her boys to the odd McDonald's meal in place of posh palace fare when they were kidlets.

Now a UK publication has reminded the world that six years ago the Duke of Sussex did a late-night Nando's run — and despite the time that's past, people are having bizarrely strong feelings about the incident.

Prince Harry was reportedly introduced to the Portugeuse chicken chain by one of his security staff, and has been spotted at Nando's a handful of times — most notably in the Fulham Broadway outpost in 2013.

Witnesses said the then 29-year-old royal dropped in close to midnight and spent £24 (around AU$43) on takeaway for him and a friend.

Two of the Prince's security staff kept close watch as he waited more than 15 minutes for his meal to be prepared, it was reported at the time.

Harry ordered a pitta with extra cheese and a side of mash, as well as a double chicken wrap with chips, and a soft drink and bottle of water to wash it down.

However, one part of the order has left some people "disappointed" — specifically, that the Prince requested a lemon and herb pitta, the flavour packing the least amount of spice and heat.

Yep, it seems even in 2019 you'll still cop digs at your masculinity for not enduring that peri-peri burn.

While most of the public scutiny over the order has come for the UK press — with some outlets even labelling the royal a "wimp" for not choosing a spicier chicken flavour — the revelation has left some online commenters likewise unimpressed.

"So Prince Harry is in the news for popping into Nando's for a quick bite to eat. Well done, Harry. I was impressed for a second, but.....lemon and herb? Disappointing!" wrote one Twitter user.

Some users also joked that the Duke's fast food dinner was deliberately timed with Duchess' trip to the US, further solidfying his "wimp" status — despite the order having taken place in 2013.

It's still not clear why the incident has suddenly started retrending again, but seems to trace back to an article written by The Mirror.

It's been a while since the new dad was spotted lining up for a late-night feed (these days the royal is more likely to be spotted lining up for a private jet), but we hope online critics won't deter Harry from enjoying the odd cheat meal, spicy or not.
