The Duchess of Sussex celebrated her 38th birthday on August 4, reportedly having a small gathering at Frogmore Cottage.

Meghan, who gave birth to baby Archie Harrison on May 6, is still officially on maternity leave despite making the occasional public appearance.

According to Hello! Magazine, part of the Duchess's birthday festivities included a delicious cake from a bakery featured in the September issue of British Vogue, which Meghan guest-edited.

Meghan is a fan of Luminary Bakery, which describes itself as "empowering women to reach their potential".

The café – in London's north-east – helps women from disadvantaged backgrounds get their lives back on track by giving them a second chance.

In particular, it helps those affected by homelessness, violence, sexual assault, those who have been involved in criminal activity or suffered mental health issues.

Meghan included the bakery in Vogue's Forces for Change issue and sent the team a hand-written letter in her distinctive calligraphy.

"When I knew I would be secretly guest editing the September issue of British Vogue, including Luminary Bakery was non-negotiable," the Duchess wrote to bakery founder Alice Williams and her team, in July.

"The work you do, what you represent to the community, the spirit of the women there – you all embody what it means to be 'force for change'.

"Thank you for being a part of this special project."

The note was signed "Meghan" and included the Duchess's official cypher — a script uppercase 'M' underneath a coronet, embossed in gold.

The bakery tweeted when news broke of Meghan's involvement in the magazine saying, "What an honour!

"The #DuchessofSussex personally requested Luminary to be featured as a representation of the theme #ForcesForChange.

"We are still pinching ourselves that we've gotten to be a part of this special issue."

Although it's unclear which flavour Meghan chose for her special birthday cake, looking at the bakery's Instagram account we would be hard pressed to pick just one!
