The wild reason a UK restaurant is charging $198 for this pizza

A pizza restaurant in the UK has added a controversial pizza topping to it's delicious range, but it comes with a catch.

Lupa Pizza in Norwich has reluctantly added a ham and pineapple or 'Hawaiian' pizza to it's menu, but they are charging £100 ($198) for it.

The restaurant took to social media to share their decision.

"🍍🍕 Pineapple on pizza — love it or hate it?" they wrote.

"We're not so keen, but if you are it's now on our Deliveroo menu for £100 ($198). 🤷‍♂️ Every Thursday order from Lupa via Deliveroo and get 20per cent off your order! See Deliveroo for T&C's."

They shared a photo of the pizza and while it is clearly ridiculously expensive, it does look delicious.

The toppings aren't haphazardly thrown about, but carefully placed and look to be top quality.

And the pineapple is in the form of almost complete circles! A pineapple lover's dream.

While some of the pizza restaurant's social media followers applauded their controversial move, others weren't as impressed.

"Team pineapple," one wrote.

Some even shared their thoughts on other controversial pizza topping combinations.

It's clear the restaurant has been struggling with the decision to add a ham and pineapple pizza to it's range for a while.

A poll run by the business showed an almost even split on the question: "Does pineapple belong on a pizza?"

Our very own Nine survey asking the same, showed a resounding 72 percent of respondents in favour of pineapple on pizza.

In fact, Hawaiian pizzas are the second most popular pizza topping in Australia, beaten only by cheese pizzas according to Ooshman.

Lupa Pizza chef Quinn clearly felt the pressure, ahead of the pineapple pizza being added to their range.

One social media post showed the chef having hilariously taken to a pineapple with a bat.

This history of pineapple on pizza is an interesting one, thought to be the invention of Greek cook Sam Panopoulous who immigrated to Canada in 1954 and created the first 'Hawaiian' pizza.

The flavour combination quickly became a huge hit and spread throughout the world, however the controversy continues.
