One busy mum has showed off her hack for a mess-free trip through a McDonald's drive thru with kids.

The video, posted to TikTok by a woman who goes by the handle @imatinker1031, shows the mum dividing up fries, six nuggets and a cheeseburger, which she splits in half.

But instead of just handing the food loosely to her kid, she splits each portion into the spaces for cups in a cardboard drinks tray.

One TikTok user spotted a flaw in the master plan but offered up a handy solution.

"Great idea but I would put some napkins or coffee filters in first so that the crumbs don't spill and it's a bit more sanitary," they wrote.

And the sanitary side of things was also a concern for another viewer, who said they used to work at McDonald's and drinks trays weren't the best option.
