'Sorry to be the bearer of bad news': Macca's quietly discontinues popular menu item
McDonald's Australia has discontinued its popular chocolate soft serve.
The dessert item's absence was first noticed by a Macca's fan who took to Reddit to report it had "disappeared from menus everywhere".
"Sorry to be the bearer of bad news… but I think chocolate soft serve is basically gone from Macca's in Australia," they said on the site's 'Australia' thread.

"It's disappeared from the menu everywhere I've looked — no announcement, no warning, just quietly vanished.
"Not sure if it's officially discontinued or just pulled for now, but it's not looking good.
"If anyone has actually seen it recently, please prove me wrong."
One Redditor commented: "I work at Maccas and got told out of nowhere a month or so ago that they were going to discontinue it.

"The reason given to me was that some stores needed more space to accommodate the new drinks or the new drinks/promos made them realise stores are running out of space, and the chocolate soft serve machine isn't worth it considering space + maintenance + labour costs + I guess not enough demand? (altho plenty order it in my experience) was yummy while it lasted."
"Yeh. This was what we were told too, at least three weeks ago?" another added.
"Unfortunately the other day when I was at Macca's the chick said it was discontinued 😒 what's the point of living tbh," added one Redditor.
McDonald's Australia has now confirmed the sad news to nine.com.au.
They said in a statement: "At Macca's, we're committed to serving great tasting, great value food that Aussies know and love.
"We regularly review and evolve our menu to keep it exciting and focused on what matters most to our customers.
"As part of this review, we've said goodbye to the Chocolate Soft Serve across restaurants nationwide from 31 March 2026.
"But here's the good news: there's still plenty of delicious desserts to enjoy. From our iconic Soft Serve, McFlurry and Sundae flavours, we've got you covered.

Chocolate soft serve was first added to McDonald's dessert menu nationwide on December 5, 2023.
This followed a successful trial at select locations in September 2021.
Customers were then given the option to choose vanilla or chocolate soft serve ice cream for McDonald's desserts including soft serve cones, sundaes, and McFlurries.
Now there is only vanilla ice cream on offer for all of these desserts – however, customers can still choose additions like a Cadbury Flake on their soft serve cones, and hot chocolate fudge, caramel or strawberry toppings for their sundaes.

Macca's continues to release new, limited-edition flavours of its McFlurries, including the Derpy McFlurry launched as part of the KPop Demon Hunters collaboration, which includes vanilla soft serve, wild berry sauce and popping berry pearls.
Inspired by the "Derpy Tiger" character in the hit movie, the dessert, along with specialised meals, is available for a limited time.
Milo McFlurries were also made available earlier this year.
