Macca's fires back at breakfast rivals with major shake-up

McDonald's Australia has confirmed its Breakfast Menu will be extended by an extra hour from today.

Breakfast hours in restaurants are being extended from 10.30 until 11.30am from Wednesday February 11.

While McDonald's Breakfast Menu will be served in stores and via the My Maccas App from 4am until 11.30am, deliveries can only be made until 10.30am.

Macca's breakfast hours have changed several times over the past decade, with this news aimed at catering those who enjoy the Breakfast Menu later in the day.

A spokesperson for McDonald's Australia told nine.com.au: "Breakfast menu hours were shortened to 10.30am in 2024 due to an industry-wide egg shortage in Australia.

"Since then, some restaurants resumed serving the full breakfast menu until 11.30am, while others offered only a selection of breakfast items past 10.30am.

"From today, all restaurants will officially serve breakfast until 11.30am"

In further good news, today Macca's is launching the limited-edition Honey Sriracha Big Brekkie Range nationwide.

The range is a new take on the store's iconic breakfast favourites, pairing the sweetness of honey with the fiery kick of sriracha.

The line-up includes the Honey Sriracha Big Brekkie Burger, Honey Sriracha Mighty McMuffin, and Honey Sriracha Mega Brekkie McWrap.

McDonald's Australia officially introduced breakfast nationwide in 1987.

The original menu was focused on best selling breakfast menu items in the US.

These included the Egg and Bacon McMuffin and the Sausage McMuffin, Hash Browns, Hot Cakes, and The Big Breakfast which included an English muffin, scrambled eggs, a sausage patty, and a hash brown.

Maccas put their own stamp on breakfast in Australia with the launch of McCafe in 1993, including barista-made coffees as well as toasted sandwiches and pastries.

Changing menu items

The Big Breakfast was officially discontinued in Australia in 2021 as part of McDonald's streamlining of them menu.

This also saw the end of all-day breakfast options.

The McGriddle was added to the McDonald's Breakfast Menu in 2025, syrup-infused pancake buns filled with customer's choice of eggs, bacon, and sausage patties.

In many locations Hash Browns are served as part of the All Day Menu.

KFC Australia has launched its own trial of breakfast menu items at Sydney Airport, with a view to expand the offering across the country if successful.

Food blogger Nectoriouspapi reported on the specific items on offer, which include chicken toasties, avocado toast, chicken, egg and bacon rolls, BLTs with chicken, and chicken and egg wraps. Hash browns are also on offer, as well as coffee.

There are also several combo deals on offer, including the Brekkie Deal, which includes a chicken toastie and coffee for $9.95, and a chicken BLT with a coffee and a hash brown for $12.95.

An Original Crispy Ultimate Brekkie Wrap Combo with a chicken and egg wrap, hash brown and coffee will set you back $14.95.

Each combo comes with the customer's choice of Original Recipe or Zinger.

KFC's breakfast menu trial at Sydney Airport began in December. The international terminal outlets opens at 6am daily and KFC at the domestic terminal opens at 5.30am on Mondays and Fridays and 6am every other day.

"Innovating in our restaurants and developing new menu concepts to meet changing consumer tastes is something we're always focused on," a spokesperson for KFC Australia told nine.com.au:
