The trial proved so popular McDonald's soon realised the smart move was to make it available year round nationwide.

In addition to the fruity and fresh Strawberry Matcha Iced Latte, there will also be a Matcha Iced Latte, and one for hot drink lovers, a Matcha Latte.

Amanda Nakad, Marketing Director of Menu and Brand for McDonald's Australia said: "The response to our Matcha trial was next-level – fans flooded social media with excitement and made one thing clear: they wanted more.

"The new McCafé Matcha Range is our answer to that call."

As usual at the fast food cafe, alternative milks cost an additional fee.

These days most beverage and food ranges include either matcha or pistachio, and why not. They are healthy, and delicious!

The matcha shortage reached such a fever pitch earlier this year that reports of a matcha shortage began circulating in Japan.

Two major Japanese tea brands, Ippodo and Marukyu, last year announced purchase limits on the finely ground green tea powder in response to the growing demand.

The Japan Times reported the growing demand for the product paired with slow production times could result in a global matcha shortage.

The demand has pushed the Japanese tea industry into overdrive as it attempts to keep up.

Now with a major fast food chain like McDonald's adding matcha products to its permanent range, let's hope production has managed to catch up with this huge demand.
