Australia's fast food battle ramps up with a possible new breakfast rival
KFC's current breakfast menu trial at Sydney Airport could be part of a larger plan by the fast food giant to go head-to-head with McDonald's.
And the breakfast menu looks pretty tasty!
Food blogger Nectoriouspapi reported on the specific items on offer, which include chicken toasties, avocado toast, chicken, egg and bacon rolls, BLTs with chicken, and chicken and egg wraps. Hash browns are also on offer, as well as coffee.

KFC's breakfast menu trial at Sydney Airport began in December. The international terminal outlets opens at 6am daily and KFC at the domestic terminal opens at 5.30am on Mondays and Fridays and 6am every other day.

Both KFC outlets at the international and domestic terminals are part of the breakfast menu trial, with the menu being offered until 10.30am each day.
"Innovating in our restaurants and developing new menu concepts to meet changing consumer tastes is something we're always focused on," a spokesperson for KFC Australia told nine.com.au:
"We've been thrilled to see such a strong response to the breakfast menu so far."
When asked if the trial will be expanded to include other locations, they said, "Airports are a great place to experiment, and for now that's where this particular idea is taking off.
"As always, we're keeping a close eye on what customers love, because you never know when a new finger lickin' idea might land."

On social media, some KFC customers have recalled the fast food chain serving breakfast in Queensland in the '90s.
"Way back in the mid 90's I remember KFC doing breakfast. I was in QLD back then so not sure if it nationwide," one said on Facebook.
"This is exciting they used to do breakfast wraps in Qld at the service station ones," another added.
"They used to do it at Arana Hills in Brisbane, would have been late 90's like 96 or 97," one KFC fan reported, while another noted Fortitude Valley's train station also offered breakfast.
"They did it in the 90s , I had it about 8 years ago at tweed heads NSW before they got rid of it, not too bad," another recalled.
One KFC customer said their local store in NSW trialled breakfast "only a couple of years ago".
"It was delicious but only a trial, unfortunately it wasn't popular enough to keep it going and ultimately got discontinued and store returned to normal opening hours," they said.
"They were opening at 6am but went back to 10am."

One former employee said: "When I worked for KFC back in 2013 the registers all had breakfast items programmed into them, I always wondered which stores had them."
Ahead of a possible breakfast relaunch, it makes sense to run the trial at Sydney Airport, with its bustling crowd of hungry travellers having come from multiple time zones.
Fans can only hope the trial is successful and that KFC expands its breakfast menu across the country.
For now, McDonald's and, to a lesser extent, Hungry Jacks have a monopoly on fast food breakfasts.
McDonald's launched its official breakfast menu in 1987 following a successful trial in the Hunter region in NSW.
The original menu items included the Big Breakfast, a fry up that included scrambled eggs.

The breakfast menu was eventually refined down to the delicious line up we see today, which focuses on McMuffins, hash browns and hot cakes.
The launch of McDonald's McCafe in the early '90s added even more delicious breakfast options, including toasties and sweet treats like donuts and cake muffins, not to mention much-improved coffee, which is whipped up in record time, even in the drive through.
McDonald's now has over 1,000 locations in Australia, and KFC runs approximately 795 locations.

Some McDonald's and KFC outlets in Australia run 24/7, including KFC on George Street in Sydney and one in North St Marys in Sydney's west.
KFC serves breakfast in many countries, particularly across Asia, including China, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
These locations have extensive breakfast menus. In China, KFC serves up local breakfast favourites including congee (rice porridge), youtiao (fried dough sticks), soy milk, egg tarts, and unique items like dragon twisters, a specific kind of KFC wrap.

In Malaysia and Singapore, locals are offered nasi lemak (coconut rice) with fried chicken, Portuguese egg tarts, and hash browns with coffee.
KFC customers in the Philippines serves rice-based breakfasts as well as spiced chicken sandwiches. Hong Kong, Taiwan and Thailand sell egg tarts and other regional breakfast favourites.
