KFC Australia announces return of fan-favourite Original Mashies after 12 years

KFC has announced the return of a cult-favourite menu item after 12 long years.

The fast food giant is finally bringing back Original Mashies to stores across Australia.

Mashies, which are bite-sized pieces of KFC mashed potatoes covered in herbs and spices, were last available Down Under in 2011.

The fan-favourite Mashies are served with the company's iconic gravy dipping sauce.

They will be available in KFC stores across the country from Tuesday, May 16 until June 12, 2023.

It was first rumoured in March 2023 that the Mashies would be making a comeback, however KFC has only just officially confirmed the news.

Customers can grab a six or 12-pack of Original Mashies or they can be found as a side piece in the Original Mashies Box.

"We're always looking to delight KFC fans by introducing tasty new feeds or bringing back fan favourites, which is why for the first time in 12 years, Original Mashies will be available on menus nationwide," Sally Spriggs, CMO at KFC Australia, said of the menu relaunch.

"After being reintroduced as a test last year to restaurants in Tasmania for a limited time, fans across the country have been vocal in calling for the Original Mashies' return, but get in quick as you never know when they'll be back again."

After being axed from the menu in 2011, fans have craved the return of Original Mashies for over a decade.

KFC introduced a similar snack called Gravy Mashies in 2017, but fans were yearning for the old favourite.

Australian customers were so desperate to see Original Mashies on the KFC menu again, Change.org petition was even created online.
