Influencer and model criticised for messaging Queensland restaurant with offer to collaborate

An Australian influencer has been put on blast for appearing to ask a restaurant for free meals in exchange for Instagram content.

Brisbane-based model Jasmine Rollason was publicly shamed after she got in touch with a Noosa restaurant with an offer to help their "business grow" through sharing her opinion and posts on social media.

Rollason's message was shared onto infamous restaurant critic John Lethlean's Instagram, who often calls out influencers for asking businesses for free food or products as part of his "#CouscousForComment" series.

"Hey, my name is Jasmine, I love your Instagram, your restaurant looks [sic] devine," Rollason's message to the anonymous restaurant begins.

"I am heading to Noosa in just under two weeks and I am sharing and reviewing my experiences. I would love to have the privilege to help your business grow and share on my Instagram."

The Instagram model went on to explain she has 35,000 followers who "value my opinions" and offered to supply the eatery with images.

While Rollason does not explicitly ask for free food, the message also offers her modelling services too.

"I have lots of experience and I am more than happy to help out," she concludes the message.

Lethlean shared screenshots from Rollason's Instagram DM and posted it onto his personal profile with he caption: "A model and a reviewer #couscousforcomment."

The post garnered plenty of angry responses from Lethlean's followers, who criticised Rollason for her message and suggested she pay for her food.

"Just pay for your dinner sweetie and leave a review on their website like normal people do," one person wrote.

"When will it end?? Seriously… these influencers can't read the current climate," another added.

Lethlean also made headlines in February after he shared a similar message from influencer Elle Groves, who reached out to a restaurant hoping for a "collab" in exchange for free meals.

The owner replied with a scathing response and suggested Elle pay for her food.

"Maybe give it a year or so and see how the business landscape looks, and see if you can amass enough followers for your 'collabs' to actually be of benefit to the venues you approach so naively," he said.

"In the meantime, maybe exchange money for the things you want to eat and drink, up your content quality and volume, and post those stories and posts anyway as a way of supporting a decimated industry."

"Eat, drink, spend and tip instead of beg and you'll probably be on the right path."
