Hundreds line up outside Melbourne pub for cult US burger chain In-N-Out

A wildly popular US burger chain opened a pop-up store in Melbourne for a brief six-hour window on Wednesday, March 8.

In-N-Out Burger opened its doors in St Kilda at the Newmarket Hotel from 9am until 3pm for today only, serving some of the franchise's famous fast-food menu items.

Queues started forming outside Newmarket Hotel early this morning, with hungry customers snaking around the corner in a bid to grab a bite of the popular burgers.

Fans were served on a "first-come-first-served" basis, and videos shared on social media showed hundreds of people patiently waiting and lining up down the street.

In-N-Out last came to Australia in 2022, when it opened a similar pop-up store in Perth.

It also ran a limited-time store in Brisbane in 2020 and in Sydney in 2019. The last time it came to Melbourne was in 2018.

Fans were warned on social media to get in quick if they wanted a taste of In-N-Out.

Last time the cult burger chain was in Australia, the food sold out quickly, leaving some would-be customers disappointed.

"It will sell out," Jimmy's Burgers owner James Hurlston said on Instagram. "There will be a line-up."

In-N-Out's most popular burgers include the Double-Double and Animal Style burger, which are tipped to be on-offer.

The burger chain even flew in its own potatoes for the pop-up event, so you know the chips will be authentically American.

"For those who have not yet experienced In-N-Out Burger, be sure to come and check us out at this special promotional event," the chain said in a statement.

There are 385 In-N-Out stores in America, where it was founded in 1948.
