Hungry Jacks has discontinued one of its core breakfast menu items in Australia, in its latest move against breakfast rival McDonald's.

Pancakes are being removed from the Hungry Jacks breakfast menu as of February 17, having been part of the Hungry Jack's breakfast line up since its launch in 2005.

This is a bold move by the fast food retailer, as February 17 is known nationally as Pancake Tuesday.

In place of pancakes, Hungry Jacks is adding a new breakfast menu item to their line up, French Toast Fingers.

This follows a successful trial of French Toast Fingers on the Gold Coast in 2025 which saw customers asking for a national roll out.

"This isn't your stock‑standard brekky," Joy Villanueva, Head of Jack's Cafe, told nine.com.au.

"Aussie palates are moving on – and while pancakes had a good run, it's time for something a little more avant-garde, and seriously craveable, all part of a better brekky menu for our customers."

Hungry Jacks has made a number of changes to its breakfast menu of late, including swapping English Muffins for artisan Turkish buns and offering a growing line-up of flame-grilled BBQ Brekky Wraps.

Hungry Jacks serves their breakfast menu until 11am each day and it currently includes brekkie wraps and rolls as well as hash browns and toasties.

This latest fast food breakfast news comes just days after McDonald's Australia announced they were officially extending their breakfast menu to 11.30am.

Maccas has also added a Honey Siracha line up to their core range which includes McMuffins, Hash Browns, Hot Cakes, and more recently, McGriddles.

The new Honey Siracha line-up includes a Honey Sriracha Big Brekkie Burger, Honey Sriracha Mighty McMuffin, and Honey Sriracha Mega Brekkie McWrap.

McDonald's Australia officially introduced breakfast nationwide in 1987.

Macca's put their own stamp on breakfast in Australia with the launch of McCafe in 1993, including barista-made coffees as well as toasted sandwiches and pastries.

KFC is also trialling a breakfast menu at both Sydney airport terminals, which, if successful, will be rolled out across the country.
