Woolworths has axed a cult-favourite snack from supermarket shelves, leaving fans bereft.

A panicked shopper took to Reddit to report they were having trouble finding Red Rock Deli Thai Chilli & Lime chips in stores.

"I will pass away if Woolworths stopped selling Thai Chilli Lime red rock deli chips," they wrote on the 'Woolworths' thread.

"Out of stock at my Woolworths and they've taken the tag down - please tell me this isn't true," they added.

Some Redditors attempted to console them by suggesting other Red Rock Deli flavours they may enjoy, including Honey Soy Chicken, but there was no comforting them.

A spokesperson for PepsiCo, the owners of the Red Rock Deli brand, confirmed to nine.com.au: "Thai Chilli & Lime is no longer available at Woolworths."

They added that the flavour is still being sold at Coles and "independent retailers".

We visited our local Woolworths store and confirmed Red Rock Deli Thai Chilli & Lime chips and the corresponding tag had been removed.

But there were plenty on sale at our local Coles, where they are also on special, selling for two 165g packets for $8, saving customers $4.

Woolworths was selling several other Red Rock Deli flavours, including Lime & Black Pepper.

The PepsiCo spokesperson added: "In other great news Trio of Cheese is newly available at Woolworths."

We asked the PepsiCo spokesperson which Red Rock Deli flavours are the biggest sellers in Australia, and they said Sweet Chilli & Sour Cream and Honey Soy Chicken.

But Thai Chilli & Lime still holds a special place in the hearts of chip lovers who enjoy a citrus twist.

Some Redditors pointed to an Aldi product they claim is just as good, or even better, than the Red Rock Deli variety.

"Aldi sells a similar flavour too (and it's cheaper) so won't need to die," they said.

These are Aldi's Blackstone Extra Crunch Crinkle Cut Thai Chilli & Lime Flavoured Deli Style Chips.

They are even cheaper than Red Rock Deli, selling for $2.99 for 165g.

"These are so good that I have banned myself from buying them as I can't stop myself from eating the whole bag in one sitting," one Aldi shopper said.

"Can confirm. Currently eating a bag in one sitting," added another.

A Woolworths spokesperson told nine.com.au: "We know how much Australians love their potato chips and other snacks, and we always offer a wide variety of brands and flavours to suit every taste.

"From time to time we tweak our selection, including introducing new options, to keep things in the snack aisle fresh and interesting.

"We also want to ensure we're offering the flavours customers want to buy."
