'I'm mad I never thought of this': Incredibly simple onion-slicing hack racks up 20mil views
Throw out that mandoline you still haven't taken out of the package, because one TikTok hack is about to change your food prep game.
A viral TikTok has people fuming after making them realise they could've been using two very simple kitchen utensils to thinly shave their veggies – ones they likely already have rolling around in their drawers.
The video, which now boasts 20.6 million views, shows a man sticking a fork into the side of a peeled onion, holding it steady on a chopping board, and then taking a peeler and running it over the surface of the onion, shaving off thin layers, perfect for salads.

He also does the same with cabbages, holding the peeler at the pointy edge so that the vegetable gets cut into thin shavings, and with a carrot, putting pressure on the peeler to create long shaved ribbons.
He also shows a similar hack for peeling potatoes, sticking a fork in the top and working it all the way around the potato in one simple motion to rid it of it's skin.
Commenters were both amazed and infuriated by the simple hack.

"So that's how they do it," realised one commenter, while another declared it the "lifehack of the year".
One comment simply reads, "Every time I open this app, I feel incompetent."

"Kendal Jenner knew what she was doing," wrote another commenter, referring to the strange way the model positioned her hands one over the other when cutting a cucumber on The Kardashians, which is emulated in this video to keep the fork steady while using the peeler.
