How to easily devein a prawn
Cleaning prawns can be daunting to the uninitiated, but there's an easy way to devein prawns.
Grilled on the barbie or thrown in a salad or seafood platter, prawns are an Aussie favourite. But while peeling them is one thing, deveining them efficiently and cleanly is something else entirely.
There's plenty of us who can't stand the look of the dark 'vein' that runs down the back of a prawn, but we still love the little crustaceans.
There are others still who call this digestive tract the 'poop shoot' — which really does not make you want to eat the delicious little guys.

How to devein prawns
What you’ll need:
- small sharp knife or skewer
Ingredients:
- green prawns, unpeeled
Method:
- Twist the head off the prawn.
- Put your thumb underneath the shell and peel off.
- Push and shake the tail to slide it off.
- Lift up the dirt track with the knife/skewer and pull the tract out... it's pretty satisfying.
