It's the last thing you'd expect supermarkets to stock right now, but some Aussies are going to be thrilled to see this
It's something that never fails to spark debate every year – how long after Christmas is it appropriate for hot cross buns to hit shelves?
Usually, punters begrudgingly accept the sight of the delicious Easter treat in stores from Boxing Day.
But if you head to one supermarket chain, you'll find – one month before Christmas dinner has had the chance to even pass anyone's lips, let alone digest – hot cross buns already for sale.

That's right, ALDI Australia sells hot cross buns all throughout the year.
In a statement shared with 9honey Kitchen, a spokesperson for ALDI confirmed one particular type of hot cross bun is available in stores year-round, but every other version of the sweet – and, at times, savoury – treat won't hit shelves until later this year.

ALDI's decision to sell its Spiced Fruit Buns all throughout the year makes sense when you consider one thing – it's clearly what the people want.
In 2021, 2022 and 2023, after all, ALDI's hot cross buns ranked in the top three of the country as ranked by CHOICE.
ALDI's Bakers Life Chocolate Hot Cross Buns came in second place last year, with the budget giant's Bakers Life Indulgent Traditional Fruit coming in second place in 2022, and its Specially Selected Traditional Fruit coming in second in 2021.
