Get the most out of your $4 iceberg lettuce with this clever hack

An iceberg lettuce costs an average of $4 in Aussie supermarkets. Thanks inflation. Usually, the most basic of lettuces sells for $2.

At double it's usual price, you'll be wanting to get as much out of each of these as possible and with this clever hack, you'll be doing just that.

A woman named Suzy, who shares videos on TikTok at ocwarrior19 has shared a hack for preparing an iceberg lettuce before chopping it up for delicious and crispy salads.

She captions the video: "Easiest way to take the core out", adding in the video: "My momma taught me this one."

In the video we see Suzy unwrapping a lettuce from it's plastic packaging. She then turns the lettuce upside down so the core is against the kitchen bench and then bangs the core onto the bench firmly.

She then turns the lettuce so the core is facing up, and taking hold of it removes it from the lettuce.

The end result looks like this:

Once the outer leaves are removed, the iceberg lettuce is ready for chopping for delicious and crispy salads.

The video has been viewed over 300,000 times with many thanking her for showing them this clever hack.

"Great trick," says one.

"The things TikTok will teach you," adds another.

"Well I've just learnt something new," one person writes.

"I never seen this before and I'm going to be cutting an iceberg shortly! I'm trying this," one of Suzy's appreciative TikTok followers explains.

"I learned this at a restaurant I worked at when I was 15. Accurate!!" adds another.

Others shared their own iceberg lettuce hacks, with one claiming if the core is placed in water, it will grow more lettuce!

"Keep that piece and put it in water...it will grow more lettuce," they claim.

Another says if the entire lettuce isn't going to be used, it is best to keep the core in to "keep it fresh".

Others say they have known about the core removal hack for many years.

"I've been doing this for years what ppl just finding out this out now.....sad lol," one jokes.

"We aren't as old as you are so yeah we're finding out now," one responds.

For lettuce snobs who don't usually eat iceberg lettuces, many took the time to explain why this particular lettuce variety is so special.

"I know right… I usually buy romaine but we were having BLTs and I like to have iceberg for that because I like the crunch," one shares.
