It was football on Prince William's mind during day two of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's visit to Scotland.

The 39-year-old spent some time at Heart of Midlothian Football Club in Edinburgh on Thursday, hearing about their mental health program called The Changing Room.

Towards the end of the visit, the Football Association president and father-of-three looked pleased as punch when presented with personalised jerseys for children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Chief executive Andrew McKinlay and chair Ann Budge opened up a box for the royal to pull out the gifts.

Prince William chuckled as he unfolded a maroon top for Charlotte, who recently turned seven.

There were others inside for the boys too, with Prince George seen accompanying his parents to football matches in the past year.

The royal appeared touched by the gesture which came after he heard about the mental well-being imitative, launched in 2018 by the Scottish Association for Mental Health.

The program is now delivered in football clubs across Scotland after Heart of Midlothian Football Club was one of two pilot organisations to participate.

Prince William has passionately promoted mental health awareness over the years and used football to reach men in particular and spearheaded the Heads Up initiative.

The campaign run in partnership between The FA and The Royal Foundation was designed to harness the influence and popularity of football to kick off a conversation about mental health among supporters, players, friends and families.
